The Friends of the ACL was founded in 1978 as a charitable arm of the Library to support the needs of
the ACL system, providing resources and programs not funded by state or local tax dollars as well as
volunteers that enhance library services and facilities at all locations. The ACL Foundation was founded
in 2008 to raise capital for larger, long-term initiatives that would help enhance ACL services and
facilities. In January 2023, the Friends of the ACL and ACL Foundation were merged into a single non-
profit entity Friends of the Augusta County Library Foundation (FACLF).
